AERRL, in collaboration with Infrabel is launching the second phase of the study project to lead the way towards the decarbonisation of the railway transport in Europe.

With th support of eolos, this study will explore the feasibility of operating rolling stock using alternative traction systems to diesel. These include biofuels (such as hydrotreated vegetable oil, ammonia, and renewable natural gas), hybrid solutions (pantograph/battery and pantograph/diesel), which will be assessed and compared with diesel and fully electrified (catenary) systems.
