The next CEF must be strong enough to drive EU transport infrastructure funding and enhance EU competitiveness and security

AERRL, with 9 other associations representing Europe’s railway sector, welcomes the proposal of the European Commission for the continuation of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) as part of the EU Multi-annual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028-2034, published on 16 July 2025.

We support the European Commission’s vision to deliver a Single European Rail Area by creating the financial framework to foster a harmonised and interoperable transition, providing a competitive railway sector. We also recognise its efforts to emphasise strategic objectives like environmental sustainability, economic growth, enhanced connectivity, and strategic autonomy.
